Ott, Angus Courtney,Jr.
Angus Courtney Ott, Jr., 94, entered his Heavenly home on Tuesday, January 1, 2019, from his home in Plainview, Texas. Services will be Wednesday, January 9, 2019, under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors and will include a private burial with full military honors at 11:00 a.m. and a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of First Baptist Church with Danny Andrews and Dr. Jacob West officiating. Family will greet friends in the church parlor before and after the memorial service.
He was born August 20, 1924 to Angus Courtney Ott, Sr. and Gladys Mae Tinsley in Bath, South Carolina. He graduated from Richmond Military Academy in Augusta, Georgia, and enlisted in the Marines in 1943 at the age of 18. He was a member of the 4th Marine Division serving in the Pacific Theater and participated in the island landings at Rota, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. While stationed in Hawaii, he played for the Marine Corp baseball team.
After serving his country in World War II, he married Vera Hope Story on May 3, 1947, in Augusta, Georgia. She proceeded him in death on October 17, 2009 after 62 years of marriage. They moved to Plainview in 1951 where he operated the EEG lab at the Plainview Hospital and Sanatorium. He later served as the administrator at Nichols Hospital and as Assistant Administrator at Central Plains Hospital, now Covenant Hospital, retiring in 1990. He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and the Pastors Class. He was an avid golfer and a devoted baseball fan. He served for many years as the baseball coach of the Harvest Queen Mill Braves in the youth Babe Ruth league.
Angus and Vera enjoyed traveling, touring every area of the United States throughout their retirement years. They especially loved taking their grandchildren on travel adventures.
As a couple, they were involved in countless community service activities, with the Covenant Hospital Auxiliary being most dear to their hearts where they served for many years as the chairpersons for the annual Christmas Card Project. He continued to serve on the committee until 2017.
To all who knew him, he will be remembered as a kind and humble Southern gentleman who treasured his family, friends and his Christian faith.
His survivors include three daughters, Hope English of Lubbock, Sandra Simoneau and her husband, Emil of Austin, and Marsha Wilson and her husband, Shawn of Lincoln, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Chad English and his wife, Jodi of Ft. Worth, Brent English and his wife, Lauren of Lubbock, Courtney Willson and her husband, Rob of Austin, Caroline Wilson of Austin, Emily Simoneau of Austin, Leslie Simoneau of Denton, and Sam Simoneau of Austin; four great -grandchildren, Ainsley, Archer and Hattie English of Ft. Worth and Maggie English of Lubbock. His son, Gary Ott, preceded him in death in 2016.
