Erving was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Stratford, Okla., to Jannie and Estes Erving Clark. He served in the Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946, where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.
Erving married Menoma ?Minnie? Esther Haynes on Aug. 15, 1946. They made their home in Plainview, where they raised their four children.
He was an avid golfer, enjoyed singing in his church choir and was a long-time member of Parkview Baptist Church, and later, Seth Ward Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Andria Paige Clary and Randy Clark Keller; and a son-in-law, Leslie Caldwell Clary.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years,four children, nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
