Gilbert, Leon D. (Jim)

Leon D. ?Jim? Gilbert, 89, of Plainview passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Calvary Baptist Church with Jeremy Gilbert, Pastor and grandson, officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

Leon was born on September 20, 1929 to James Riley Gilbert and Lillia Dean Measday in Halfway, TX. After graduating from Plainview High School, he joined the Air Force where he served for four years. After leaving the Air Force, he married the love of his life, Etta Wall in Portales, NM on March 24, 1955. They celebrated their 63rd anniversary this year. Leon was in the freight business for many years and then managed the Ollie Liner Center for over 30 years. He loved the Lord and was very active in the Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Jeanie DeLyn Davis; one son, Kenneth Don Gilbert; two brothers, William Gilbert and Eugene Gilbert and three sisters, Louise Baker, Laura Jane Gammage and Gloria Mickey.

He is survived by his wife, Etta Gilbert of Plainview; one son, Mike Gilbert and wife Donna of Lubbock; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Vitz of Lubbock, Jeremy Gilbert of Plainview, Aaron Davis of Littlefield, Cory Davis of Shallowater, Katie Ruiz of Olton, Sarah Davis of Littlefield, and Trevor Gilbert and Trace Gilbert both of Plainview; twenty great grandchildren; sister, Lily Monteith of Abilene, son-in-law, George Davis of Littlefield and longtime friends, Glen and Lona Jolly of Kress.
