Miller, David Truman, Mrs. (Ellen Ruth Jarrett)

Ellen Ruth Jarrett Miller, 96, passed from this life on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, after a brief struggle to recover from a debilitating stroke. Pastor Jason Smith and former Pastor Don Robertson will conduct funeral services Monday, Nov. 26, at 2:00 PM at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview, with interment to follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Family visitation is scheduled 3:00-5:00 Sunday afternoon, Nov. 25, at Kornerstone, 3605 SW 3rd, Plainview.

Ruth enjoyed a long, productive and exciting life, remaining active in church, family and social relationships until the month of her death.

She was the first of four children of Zora Joe and Janie Chadwick Jarrett, born on August 16, 1922, in Hopkins County near Pickton, Texas. There she lived until graduation from High School.

Ruth married David Truman Miller of the same vicinity on June 20, 1942, immediately prior to his induction into the United States Army and engagement in World War II. Ruth was able to follow her new husband?s stateside movement, working for the PX in Boise, Idaho.

After the war the couple moved to Plainview where they were blessed with the births of a son and a daughter, and Truman began his career with Green Machinery water well drilling, while Ruth began a career in medical records. She worked for Plainview Hospital as a certified records librarian, and for a period traveled across the south plains as a consultant. She also worked in doctors? offices in the same capacity, and for Central Plains MH-MR as well.

Ruth attended Wayland Baptist University over the years and eventually graduated in 1984 at the age of 61.

She was very active in her church. She taught preschoolers, children and youth in Sunday School and missions programs, and participated in women?s missions and ministries.

Ruth enjoyed crafts of all kinds. She was a great cook. The family enjoyed fishing, traveling and attending the functions of their children and grandchildren. Her influence will continue to be felt by her family and by a multitude of close friends of all ages.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents (her father also on Thanksgiving Day, 1966), by her husband Truman in 2001, and by one of her brothers, Raymond Jarrett.

She is survived by her son Kenneth (Karen) Miller of Georgetown; her daughter Barbara (Don) Robertson of Lubbock; 5 granddaughters, 4 grandsons, 15 great grandchildren; by her other brother Russell Jarrett of Plainview, by her sister Dimple Adams of Lockney; and by several nieces and nephews.

Memorial gifts in Ruth?s honor are suggested to the building fund of College Heights Baptist Church, 802 Quincy St., Plainview, TX 79072.
