Jimmie was born on September 13, 1931 in Flomot, Texas to Beno and Elsie (McAlister) McGowen. Jimmie attended and graduated from Lockney High School in May, 1949. He married Beverly Bennett on October 17, 1953 in Clovis, NM. They made their home in Plainview until 2012 when they moved to Andrews to be close to their daughter.
Jimmie worked for Bearings & Industrial, some local gins, and retired from Tulia Feedlot after 23 years as office manager. He enjoyed farming his land, working in his yard, and helping out his family and friends. When not at work he would be outside tinkering and always had one or more of his dogs following closely behind. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church when he resided in Plainview.
He always enjoyed attending the McGowen family reunions, the Lockney High School class reunions, and meeting up with coffee buddies at the The Donut Shop, but what he enjoyed the most was spending time with his family. He was especially fond of his grandkids and loved to watch them in all their sporting events and various school activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his three brothers, O.L. (Mac), Sam and Donnie Ray McGowen; and a daughter, Janet Lee.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Beverly; his daughters, Judy Bailey and husband Steve of Andrews and Jody Ewing and husband Don of Grapevine; four grandchildren, Brett Bailey of Midland, Tanner Bailey of Richardson, Megan Bailey of Grapevine, and Taylor Bailey of San Angelo, and his faithful four-legged sidekick, Sallie Jo.
