Obituary

Sooter, Raymond, Mrs. (Inez Rainey)

Inez Sooter, 87, of Halfway, died Sunday, October 21, 2018, in Lubbock. Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview. Interment will follow at Halfway Cemetery under the care of Ramage Funeral Directors of Olton. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Ramage Funeral Directors, Friday, October 26.

Inez was born April 9, 1931, in Tahoka, Texas, to Benjamin and Willie (Legate) Rainey. She married Raymond Sooter on September 1, 1950, in Lubbock. Ray and Inez moved to Plainview in 1969 and then moved to Halfway in 1975. Inez enjoyed canning, baking, and would often get together with her sisters to bake pies and can whatever fruit or vegetable was in season. Inez attended Garland Street Church of Christ where she was very active in the youth program. She hosted many youth functions at her home and attended the "Hilltoppers" group at church. For many years, Inez also taught Bible classes at the women's prison in Plainview. Inez loved to play volleyball and played well into her 50's. Her volleyball team travelled the state playing college teams and generally beat them. She was very competitive and Liverpool Rummy was her game. Her family renamed it "Grandma Wins" because she rarely lost. Genealogy and exploring graveyards were also a couple of her favorite things to do.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray Sooter on May 28, 2018, two sons, Claude Sooter II and Monty Sooter, two brothers, and four sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Randy Sooter and his wife Jamie of Ft. Worth, her daughter, Shan Gill and her husband Danny of Ft. Worth, a sister, June Williams and her husband Mike of Lubbock, and a sister-in-law, Joy Rainey of Lubbock. She was blessed with three grandchildren, Brian Gill and his wife Lindsey of Ft. Worth, Duncan Gill and his wife Kerrie of Ft. Worth and Rachel Gulley and her husband Taylor of Oklahoma City, four great-grandchildren, Cooper, Liam, Lily, and Ginny, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Halfway Cemetery or Garland Street Church of Christ Youth.
