Mary Sulema Alonzo, 71, of Lubbock passed away on July 24, 2018. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A rosary will be held 6:00 P.M. Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Kornerstone Chapel.
She was born March 2, 1947 in Rocksprings, Texas to Rafael and Dominga (Sanchez) Castillo. She grew up in Hale Center and attended school there. She married Jacinto Alonzo on May 1, 1964 in Hale Center. She worked for Levi Strauss before working at Cargill for 26 years as a Quality Control Manager. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Plainview and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Lubbock. She was also a member of the Aggie Mom?s Club. She loved to crochet, sew and decorate cakes, baking and gardening were her hobbies and she loved being with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Quintanilla and husband Silvester of Lubbock; three sons, Michael Alonzo and wife Mary Frances of Las Vegas, NV, Jason Alonzo and wife Norma of Ft. Worth, TX, Chris Alonzo and wife Raquel of Rio Rancho, NM; three brothers, Richard Castillo, Robert Castillo, Ralph Castillo; three sisters, Mage Castillo, Susana Guebara, Gracie Florencio, nine grandchildren, Ben Quintanilla, Mariano Alonzo, Brian Alonzo, BreAnn Quintanilla, Vanessa Alonzo, Mariza Alonzo, Avianna Alonzo, Alex Cimo and Bianca Cimo; two great grandchildren, Xander Quintanilla and Saul Davalos, III.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joe Castillo.
The family suggests memorials to Catholic charities.
