Maggard, Leighton, Mrs. (Doris Jordan)

Doris Jordan Maggard went home to be with the Lord December 12, 2017 at the age of 96. Funeral services will be held Sat. December 16, 11:00 at Kornerstone Funeral Chapel with burial to follow in Plainview Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 10:00 -11:00.

Doris was born February 20, 1921 in Floydada and raised in the Center Community. Her parents were William Bunyan Jordan and Clara Henderson Jordan. She graduated from Floydada High School and Wayland College with an Associate?s Degree. She married Leighton Maggard in Plainview September 5, 1942. They were married 71 yrs before he passed away in 2014. Doris was an unassuming woman who managed to get things done quietly BUT she was an avid competitor and had a stinging fast ball during high school, lettered in basketball at Wayland and was an avid golfer. She won the Ladies? Championship in golf twice at Plainview Country Club and as a senior citizen was a fierce competitor in balloon volleyball. At her 90th birthday party, she was grand champion of ?Minute to Win It? games beating kids, grandkids and great grands. She loved all kinds of games whether sports or board games.

Doris worked at Jacqui?s Ladies Fashions many years and always dressed stylishly. Her granddaughters enjoyed inheriting some of her classic outfits and receiving compliments.

Doris is survived by 3 children, a son Ernie and his wife Debbie and their 3 children: Lisa (Mike) Mahady, Reina (Ed) Zamora and Derek (Laura) Maggard. Another son, David and his wife Beverly and their children: Mark (Jenny) Maggard, Michael (Amanda) Maggard, and Mandy (Patrick) Lockett. And daughter Judy (Clar) Schacht, and their children: Meredith (Craig) Campbell and Spencer (Kamerin) Schacht. She was a proud Meemaw to 11 great grandchildren.
