Washington, Earnest, Mrs. (Doris Christine Williams)

Celebration of Life for Doris Christine Washington, 73, of Plainview, will be held at 11:00 am at the First Assembly of God 1300 N. I-27 in Plainview, on Saturday, April 28, 2018 with Pastor J.J. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Bartley Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Washington passed from this life on April 23, 2018 in Plainview.

Doris was born on April 21, 1945 in Liberty, MS., to John Wesley Williams Sr. and Annie Mae (Jackson) Williams. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and went on to attend Texas Southern University. She married Earnest Washington on December 31, 1964 in Plainview. From this union they had two children; Tanya and Terence.

Doris worked at HCSB, now Centennial Bank, for a little over 41 years. She started as teller and retired as a Vice President. She was very active in the community and gave her love passionately. She was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church where she conducted bookkeeping duties and taught Sunday school. Doris was involved in numerous organizations/committees throughout her life. To name a few, Correspondence Secretary BTW All School Reunion Committee, Chairman of Community Recognition for Black Awareness, Cancer Society, United Way, Business and Professional Women, American Heart Association, Committee Member of Austin Heights Community Center, etc.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Earnest (Honeybear) Washington of 53 years, her children Tanya Washington of Lubbock, and Terence Washington and wife Shacanna of Jacksonville, FL., one granddaughter Alexandria Washington of Phoenix AZ, her brother; John Wesley Williams Jr., and wife Sandra Jean of Lubbock, also her niece, Rashonda Hervey that Doris treated like her daughter of Plainview. As well as a host of family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents John W. Sr. and Annie Mae Williams, and her brother; Samuel Lee Williams.
