Butch was born near Santa Anna, TX in Coleman County on May 15, 1918 to Vince and Mary Newman McClure. He grew up farming and chose that as his lifelong career. In 1940 he married Ruby Olene Bennett of Talpa, TX. They continued to live in Coleman County until a long drought lead Butch to seek a better opportunity on the high plains. He moved his family to the Plainview area in 1957 where he farmed until he retired in 1982. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Olene, in 1974. He married Hazelle McElroy of Plainview in 1977. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one grandson and one daughter in law. Butch is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Hazelle; son Bennett McClure of Midland, TX; daughter Elaine Black (Ron) of Brownwood, TX; son Rick McClure (Cindy) of Malvern, AR; stepsons Don Clark of Lubbock, TX, Jim Clark of Florida and stepdaughter Sue Austin of Plainview; seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, thirteen great great grandchildren and numerous friends and relatives.

Butch was everybody?s favorite known for his unique sense of humor and great storytelling. He loved to make people laugh, attending family reunions and listening to gospel music. He taught us all the virtues of honesty and hard work. He also provided us with a great example of how to live life to the fullest by finding humor in any situation.

The earthly body may be gone but Butch?s spirit lives on in all of us who were lucky enough to call him a husband, Daddy, Pa, brother, cousin or friend.
