Burton, Lonnie Verdell

Lonnie Verdell Burton, 64, of Plainview passed away on June 25, 2018. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 29, 2018 at College Heights Baptist Church with Gary Yates and Jason Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held 6:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Kornerstone.

He was born January 24, 1954 in Olton, Texas to Franklen Verdell and Janice (Rhodes) Burton. He married Kathy Yates on June 20, 1981 in Lamesa, Texas. He worked for Plainview Police Department from 1976 until his retirement in February of 2009. He then went to work as the chief of police at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview in March of 2009. Lonnie loved to visit with his Wayland students and get to know all of them. He was a member of College Heights Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Janice Burton and a brother, Ronnie Burton.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy Burton of Plainview; his father, Verdell Burton of Norman, OK, his daughter, Jennifer Marvel and husband Kristopher of Canyon, Texas; his son, Justin Burton and wife Chelsea of Plainview; three grandchildren, Braxtyn Burton, Zane Halcomb-Burton and Kristen Marvel.
