Wylie, Oscar Ray, Mrs. (Doris Lovvorn)

Doris Lovvorn Wylie passed from this earth on May 31, 2018. Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM at Lemons Memorial Chapel, on June 2, 2018. Interment will be at the Plainview Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 til 2:00 before the service.

Doris was born at home on July 4, 1928 in the community of Providence, named by her grandfather. She attended school at Providence and graduated from Plainview High School at 14. She then moved to Amarillo and attended Amarillo College for a year. She married Oscar Ray Wylie on January 29, 1949 in Plainview. During their 67 year marriage they were blessed with two children, Loy Ray and Janet. Oscar and Doris were members of the 4th and Bedford Church of Christ in Dimmitt, TX.

They farmed from 1949 ? 1994, living in Providence, Vega, Summerfield, and Dimmitt. She could drive a tractor, pick cotton, and drive a truck during harvest. She maintained a garden with as many as a 100 tomato plants. She canned and froze vegetables and fruit, prepared cakes, pies, and bread for her family. Her delight was serving a meal with as many as 10 vegetables from her garden for her family. She catered a feast at harvest.

She had a servants hearts, serving drop in guests sometimes as many as 20 in a week. She carried food to the sick and bereaved. She served at the hospital for 15 years as a Pink Lady and taught bible class for 20 years. In her spare time she sewed 98% of Janet?s and her own clothes. She attended every school function and tirelessly worked in concession stands and school parties.

Doris read everyday. She read at least three books a week and her bible every morning. Our home was full of joy and love one finds when Jesus is the center. She was totally devoted to God, her beloved Oscar and her family.

In her later years she started quilting. She searched for fabrics and patterns everywhere, there were no quilt shops then. She cut each piece perfectly with a trembling hand. Mother suffered with Essential Tremors a form of Parkinson?s, that soon robbed her from her favorite things, cooking, sewing, quilting, and eating out. She never lost her interest in government, history, politics, and world events. They traveled and visited all the family from the Atlantic to the Pacific. They enjoyed their travel trailer. Stopping at every historical monument on the way.

She is survived by Loy Ray Wylie and wife Patricia of Flower Mound, one daughter Janet Mitchell and husband Ricky of Lubbock; 5 grand children, Michelle Steiner, Lyndy Nelson, Jason Loy Wylie, Mark Ryan Mitchell, and Whitney McEvers. 13 great grands, Brody, Lily, Brock, Austin, Braxton, Colton, Weston, Ava, Kaden, Emery, Wylie, Julianne, Abby, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Oscar, her parents Ernest and Nola Lovvorn, one sister Madine Gifford and three brothers, Russel, Lloyd, and Weldon Lovvorn. Pallbearers are Jason, Brody, and Brock Nelson, Austin Rogers, Trent McEvers, and Mark Mitchell.
