Schur, Martin Paul

Martin Paul Schur, 90, passed thru life into eternity on Monday, May 21, 2018 in Plainview following a short illness. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 10 A.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Plainview. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.

Martin Schur was born on February 6, 1928 in Vernon, Texas to Paul and Louise Hempel Schur. He attended Vernon Schools, graduating in 1945. After graduation, his farming career began in earnest. He moved to Plainview in January of 1949, living in Happy Union community until 1960. Martin raised cotton, milo and wheat along with a pig operation. When the irrigation water began to weaken, he bought land northeast of Plainview in 1960 where they still reside. Martin?s motto was ?Get?er done and be perfect.?

Martin met Elaine Adrian, both having parts in a church play, and were married on September 19, 1950. He was a lifelong Lutheran, a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school for many years. He held every office in the voting assembly and was active in the community serving as United Farm Industries Board President, Farmers Cooperative Compress Board of Directors member and Germania Insurance Local President. Among their many blessings were two daughters, Linda Schur Mahoney, Carolyn Schur Redden, and one son, Glenn Schur.

He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Pauline Schoppa, Clara Anita Kunkel, Sidonia Kieschnick and one brother, Charles Schur.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elaine Schur of Plainview; three children, Linda Schur Mahoney of San Antonio, TX, Carolyn Redden and husband Corky of Throckmorton, TX and Glenn Schur and wife Dina of Plainview, TX; three grandchildren, Jason Mahoney and wife Brenda of Lucas, TX, Lori Brooks and husband Tim of Atlanta, GA and Layton Schur of Plainview, TX; one brother, Arthur Schur and wife Nell of Lockney, TX.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Building Fund, Meals on Wheels or The Lutheran Hour, 660 Mason Ridge Center Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141.
