Eddie Don Farris, 52, of Amarillo went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 20, 2011.
Memorial services will be at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Coulter Road Baptist Church with Larry Payne, pastor of BSA Hospital and Chris Robeson, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be at a later date in the Parkview Cemetery in Plainview. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mr. Farris was born on June 25, 1958 in Plainview, Texas to Billy and Pauline Farris. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1976 and later Auctioneer School in 1978. He married Vicky Cox Amerson on June 1, 1985 in Boys Ranch. He had worked at Boys Ranch as a dorm parent and rodeo coach from 1978 to 1985. He also worked for Buckner?s Children?s Home then and maintained a child care license and home daycare for fifteen years, worked at Legends Steakhouse and was most recently general manager at Kwik Kar on western for six years, working closely with his family.
Mr. Farris was a member of Coulter Road Baptist Church, where he was Interim Youth Minister several times and Youth Activities Director and sponsor for twelve years. He sponsored many Mexico mission trips and youth ski trips. Eddie greatly influenced the lives of thousands of children and youth during his lifetime.
If you needed a laugh, he was the one to give you one. If you needed a hug he was always there. His children thought he was Superman! His first love was his family and his passion was spending time with family and friends at the lake, water skiing, camping, cooking out, and traveling. He loved to kid around, laugh, and hold hands.
The Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forever more. Psalms 1 21:8.
Survivors include two sons, Matthew Amerson and wife Jenifer, and Michael J. Farris, both of Amarillo; a daughter, Jessica Farris of Amarillo; his former wife and companion, Vicky Farris of Amarillo; five sisters, Becky Payne and husband Jimmy of Amarillo, Sandy Melton and husband Johnney of Aransas Pass, Texas, Carolyn Robinson and husband Dana of Amarillo, Diane Brownlee and husband Brandon of Plainview and Donna Whitsitt of Weatherford, Texas; two grandchildren, Colton Amerson and Landon Amerson. He is also survived by his step-mother, Carolyn Farris of Plainview and Grananny Letha Amerson of Amarillo and several cherished aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Eddie was greatly loved and will be missed by all that knew him.
