Phillips, Frances Marie

Frances M. Phillips, was born on November 8, 1918 in Hale Center, Texas, the daughter of Clyde C. and Ada Stutzman Phillips, and passed away on March 18, 2012 in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Frances graduated from Hale Center Public Schools, with BA and MA degrees from West Texas State University. Frances furthered her studies as a Fulbright scholar in London, England, earning a PhD from the University of New Mexico. Her career in education included teaching in public schools in Texas and Colorado, Wayne State University, Nebraska, Sul Ross State College, Alpine, Texas, Mankato State College Minnesota. She returned to Sul Ross as Dean of Graduate Studies and Head of the History Department. Frances finished her career in education as Baccalaureate Program Coordinator with the Texas Coordinating Board for Higher Education. Frances actively volunteered with professional organizations during her retirement years.

Frances relocated to Santa Fe, NM to be near her sister Kathryn in 2010.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Kathryn Lopez and nephew, Stephen Lopez.

Survivors include brother, Paul Phillips, nephews Vincent Phillips and Ralph Lopez, nieces, Barbara Phillips-Farley and Karen Phillips, and grand-nieces and nephews.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held in Plainview, TX at Plainview Memorial Cemetery on Saturday March 24, 2012 at 11:00 a.m.
