June Martin Wells, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 14, 2018. . Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 17 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Theresa June Martin was born on June 1, 1928 to John Thomas and Elana Staggs Martin in Tipton, Oklahoma. She graduated from Tipton High School in 1946 and attended Abilene Christian University and Wayland Baptist University, receiving a B.S. degree in Education and Business.
June married Harley Wells in 1954 and they enjoyed 40 years of marriage. They led a happy life, farming and raising their three children, Sherri, Kathy, and Brent. After Harley?s death, June continued to be active in the family farming business until her death.
June was a schoolteacher, a bookkeeper, but was most proud of being a homemaker. She was a Church of Christ Bible school teacher and a Bandina Christian Youth Camp teacher and counselor for many years, and positively influenced uncountable young people?s lives. Her involvement in community activities were numerous, including the Plainview Chamber of Commerce, Parent Teachers Association, Hale County Historical Commission, Chair of Hale County Sesquicentennial celebration, Hi Plains Genealogical Society, Texas State Genealogical Society Representative of District 17, and Llano Estacado Museum Advisory Board. She was selected as Plainview?s Woman of the Year in 1975.
One of June?s passions was genealogy and she belonged to many heritage groups, including Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Daughters of the American Colonists, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Jamestown Society, Magna Charta Dames, Most Noble Order of the Garter, Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, Presidential Families of America, Daughters of 1812, and the Order of Americans of Armorial Ancestry.
She also loved to travel and took many memorable trips with her husband and children, as well as genealogical trips with family and friends. June had friends around the world and never met a stranger. She had Martin relatives throughout the United States that she visited with regularly and enjoyed attending many family reunions. She treasured her grandchildren, and her great grandson, Bryce, was the light of her life.
June was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Wells, her father, John Thomas Martin, her mother, Elana Staggs Martin, her brother & sister-in-law, Perry & Vera Martin, her sister-in-law, Audra Martin, her son in law, Bubby Gilmore, and her step-grandson, Derek Cummings.
She is survived by daughters Sherri Gilmore, Kathy Cummings & husband Doug, son Brent Wells & wife Lori, grandchildren Laney Dulakis & husband Billy, Hallie Wells, Karley Brown & husband Tucker, one great grandson Bryce and her brother Dee Martin.
