Thomas, Harold Wright

Graveside services for Harold Thomas, 76, of Lubbock, will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 23, 2009 in the Abernathy Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy. Mr. Thomas died Monday evening, Oct. 19, 2009, in Hale County, Texas.

He was born on May 25, 1933 in Waco, Texas, and moved to Abernathy in 1949, where he graduated from Abernathy High School. He married Billie Ann Watts on July 11, 1953 in Abernathy, Texas, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 10, 2009. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and he was a Shriner. He was preceded in death by a brother, Benson Thomas, who was killed in action while serving in the Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Thomas is survived by a son, David Thomas of Abernathy; a daughter, Debra Thomas of McKinney, Texas; two brothers, John P. Thomas of Roundrock, Texas and Robert E. Thomas of Lubbock; a sister, Annese Darter of Wellington, Texas; five nephews; and five nieces.

The family suggests that memorials be sent to the American Cancer Society.
