Roger Dale Mahagan, 65, of Hale Center, died Wednesday, February 7, 2018, in Hale Center. Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, February 10, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Hale Center with Brother Kris Knippa and Brother Carrol Green officiating. Interment will follow at Hale Center Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors.
Roger was born September 24, 1952, in Hale Center, TX, the son of Melvin and Charlene Mahagan. He graduated from Hale Center High School in 1971 and began farming in 1974. On June 1, 1972, Roger married Linda Hicks in Hale Center. To say that Roger had a servant's heart and love for his community would be an understatement. Roger had served on the Hale Center Volunteer Fire Department since 1980. He was a reserve police officer in Hale Center for 25 years. Roger was on the Hale Center City Council for eight years, the Hale Center ISD School Board for 17 years, and on the Hale Center Cemetery Association board. His family was named the Hale Center's Farm Family of the Year in 2006 and he was the Citizen Thru the Years in 2017.
Roger was a talented woodworker and he built beautiful furniture. He enjoyed fishing and playing ping-pong. Known for his wonderful chicken and dumplings, Roger was young at heart and loved joking around. Most of all, Roger loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Alan Mahagan, and a nephew, Keith Alan Mahagan.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Linda Mahagan of Hale Center, three daughters, Lori Benson and her husband Kyle of Hale Center, Courtnei Garibay and her husband Jamie of Lubbock, and Ashlei Herron and her husband Corey of Odessa, and a brother, Leslie Mahagan and his wife Joan of Boston, MA. He was blessed with ten grandchildren, two nephews, three nieces, and his dog Gracie (also known as his favorite daughter).
The family suggests memorials be made to the Hale Center Cemetery Association P.O. Box 549 Hale Center, TX 79041, the Hale Center Volunteer Fire Department, or the First Baptist Church P.O. Box 396 Hale Center, TX 79041.
