Hooks, Raymond D.

Raymond D. Hooks, 83, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Plainview, Texas with Pastor Gabe Moudy officiating. A visitation will immediately follow the service at the church. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview, Texas.

Raymond was born on June 17, 1934 in Stephenville, TX to Carl and Birdie Hooks. He spent his childhood in Baton Rouge, LA before moving to Plainview with his family. He married Margaret Tenery on January 14, 1956.

Raymond was an avid motorcyclist and owned Hooks Cycle Sales for 35 years. He loved all aspects of motorcycling and raced in multiple venues; motocross, racing with the US Team in Mexico in 1964, short track and enduro.

He was a former member of Lubbock Trail Riders and was one of the organizers of the Plainview Roadrunners Car Club. He had a natural gift and passion for building custom show cars which he entered in many shows across the state.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Joey Hooks and a sister, Billie Stanford.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; a son, Danny Hooks and wife, Melissa of Plainview; a daughter, Janet Hooks of Nolanville, Texas; three grandchildren, Daniel Hooks of Lubbock, Meagan Simpson and husband Jeremy of Lubbock and Jayce Beasley and wife Emily of Austin; five great grandsons, Gaven Hooks, Xander Hooks, Caiden and Case Simpson and Fox Beasley. He is also survived by a sister Kay Shotwill and husband Mark of Lewisville, Texas.
