Sims, Wendelle J.

Wendelle J. Sims, 81, passed away Sept. 15, 2017, at Atlanta In-Patient Hospice in Atlanta, Georgia.

Wendelle was born Nov. 13, 1935, in Aiken, Texas, to George Lee and Mamie Helen Kidd Sims. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1954. Shortly after he joined the United States Air Force where he served honorably for four years. He attended Wayland Baptist University in the fall of 1958.

He married Anna Catherine Secrest of Del Rio, Texas, in Plainview, Texas, in 1958.

He pursued the love of his life, ranching, raising horses and rodeoing with his girls who were accomplished barrel racers in Cortez, Colorado.

He retired from Mobil Oil after 30 years to Grand Junction, Colorado.

Wendelle was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

He is survived by his son Tracy Sims of Austin, Texas; daughter, Dr. Julie Jones and husband Phil of Roswell, Georgia; daughter, Jodie Clopton of Katy, Texas; grandchildren Kaitlyn Schmitt of New York, N.Y., Jamie Schmitt of Denver, Colorado, Andersyn Jones of Roswell, Georgia, Austin Sims of Austin, Texas, Kayla and Kourtney Clopton of Katy, Texas; and two sisters, Jerry Johnston of Plainview and Millie Reeves of Ojai, California.
