On July 12, 1952, Charles married Gaye Starcher in Frederick, Oklahoma and they were married over 65 years. A member of the Hale Center First Baptist Church, Charles served as the Sunday School general secretary and had served as a deacon since 1971. Charles loved the Lord and his church. He had a heart for children and always had candy to hand out. He was past president of the Owl Booster Club, member of the Hale Center Lion's Club, and was the former Democratic Precinct Chairman for the Hale Center area. Most of all, Charles loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Gaye King of Hale Center, son, Jackie King and his wife Marilyn of Hale Center, and two daughters, Resa Huffhines and her husband, James of Hale Center and Donna Orr and her husband Mike of Kemah, Texas.
