Virginia was born April 25, 1920 between Overton and Kilgore, Texas to McDonald and Addie Adeline (Rust) Williamson. One of 9 children, she left home at age 13, worked and attended Business School in Plainview, where she met her late husband, L. B. ?Doc? Churchwell, with whom she reared 7 children. She resided in Plainview from 1945 ? 2007.
Virginia spent her entire life serving her husband and family. She aspired to be a fashion designer but used her talents instead to make all the girl?s clothes as well as designing formals for the PHS coronations and sewing for the public. She cooked three meals a day and ironed every article of clothing. She was active at First Baptist Church as well as helping with PTA projects. Because of her many sacrifices, the children were able to be active in school and church activities.
She loved playing games with family and friends. Even at 97, she was playing bridge and winning much of the time. A devoted wife and mother, grandmother, caring and loyal friend, she will be greatly missed by her 7 kids, 17 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and all who knew her.
Survivors include: Glenda Spoonemore and her husband Robert of Pflugerville, TX (Stuart & Tom Spoonemore); Brenda Ashmore of Tucson, AZ (Keith & Kirk Ashmore, Karmen Woodward); Beverly Vinson and her husband Bob of Mansfield, TX (Reagan, Kyle & Collier Vinson & Brooke Sursa); Lindell Churchwell and his wife Beckie of Amarillo, TX (Shellie Brandt & Myles Churchwell); Virgene Linse of Sarasota, FL (Rhett & Travis Garner); John Brent Churchwell & his wife Sonja of Dawsonville, GA (Rodney, Derek, Ashley, Samantha); the late Glen Churchwell and 32 great grandchildren.
