Funeral services for Bill Riley, 77, of Abernathy will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2005, at the Church of Christ with Steve Gauntt and Condy Billingsley officiating. Burial will follow at the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

Mr. Riley died Wednesday, June 29, in Lubbock.

He was born Oct. 10, 1927 in Portales, N.M. He graduated from Abernathy High School in 1946. He married Betty Reagan Jan. 1, 1950 in Lubbock. He was part owner of the Farmers Tuco Gin and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was a lifelong Abernathy area farmer and rancher who died doing what he loved the most - farming and ranching. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his children and grandchildren and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Riley of Abernathy; two sons, Clark Riley and his wife Rhetta of Abernathy, and Max Riley and his wife Melody of Plainview; two daughters, Leigh Harkey and her husband Wayne, and Lynn Oswalt and her husband Steve, all of Abernathy; a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Gwenn Riley of Abernathy; and a sister, Pat Mullins of Lubbock. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren, Micha, Matt and Cleve Riley, Cliff Harkey and his wife Rendy, Blake and Stephanie Oswalt, Wade, Andy and Jace Harkey, all of Abernathy, Clint Oswalt of College Station, and Josh and Katie Riley of Plainview; and a great-grandson, Cale Harkey of Abernathy.
