Horne, Jon Nathan

Jon Nathan Horne, 56 of Abernathy, met Jesus face to face on Thursday, April 9, 2015. Though human ears could not hear, he was greeted with the words, "Well done good and faithful servant! Come and share your Master's happiness!"

Jon was born to Olen and Fauncine Horne on December 8, 1958 in Lubbock. He grew up on the family cotton farm at County Line and attended Abernathy schools, graduating in 1977. He worked at the Texas A&M Ag Experiment Station during his college years and received his teaching degree from Texas Tech University. Jon married Tracey Westmoreland on July 1, 1989 in Snyder, Texas. He was a loving and devoted dad to their two sons, Nate and Luke. John was a longtime member of Broadway Church of Christ.

Jon had a heart for reaching out to young people and focused his career on both teaching and coaching. He worked for Slaton ISD from 1992-2003 and Abernathy ISD from 2003 until the time of his cancer diagnosis this past January. Jon treated each of his students with kindness and respect. He truly loved the young men he coached and was a great example and encourager to them.

Private burial will be held at the IOOF Cemetery in Abernathy.
