WELLINGTON ? Charles D. Michael, 80, died Thursday, October 9, 2014.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Abernathy Cemetery in Abernathy with the Rev. Gene Weinette, Pastor of First United Methodist Church of Wellington, officiating, assisted by Charles D. Michael III. Arrangements are by Collins, Johnson & Thornberry Funeral Directors of Wellington.
Charles was born on Feb. 15, 1934, in Liberal, Kan., to Joseph ?J.F.? and Ethel Wells Michael. He was a graduate of Wellington High School. Charles attended and earned his Ph.D. in education from the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla.
Charles married Gracie Dupus on July 30, 1957, in Munday. He was a veteran, serving in the Army from 1954 to 1956.
Charles worked as an Area College President for Western Nebraska Community College in Sidney, Neb. He oversaw the Junior College, Nursing School & Vocational Programs of the college. Charles also worked for several years as a self-employed insurance agent.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Charles was also a member of the V.F.W. ? Glynn Moore Post No. 6439.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kathryn J. Michael on Oct. 3, 2009; three sisters, Marie Michael, Euna Howell & Juanita Michael; and a brother: Joe Michael.
