Mathes, Jack

Graveside services for Jack Mathes, 62, of New Deal will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Abernathy Cemetery with Rev. Tim Winn, a retired Baptist minister, officiating.

Services are under the direction of Abell Funeral Home of Abernathy.

Mathes died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital.

He was born May 28, 1936, in Vega. He married Leona Bednorz on May 14, 1956, in Aberdeen, Md. He served in the U.S. Army. He lived in Fairbanks, Alaska, from 1956 until 1959. He lived in Amarillo and moved to Lubbock in 1966. He served on the Lubbock Fire Department from February 1968 until retiring in 1994.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Stanley of Lubbock; three daughters, Sharla Calhoun of Lubbock, Sheila Bufe and Sheryl Keeton, both of New Deal; a brother, Stanley of Vernon; three sisters, Iva Pearl Braswell of Connecticut, Dolly Morris of Amarillo, and Helen Mathes of Canyon; and nine grandchildren.
