Armstrong, Riley A., Mrs. (Mickey Ilene Nix)
Mickey Ilene Armstrong, 97, of Lubbock, formerly of Plainview passed away on Sept. 25, 2017, in Lubbock.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, in the Lemons Memorial Chapel with Mr. Evan Weiss of 9th and Columbia Church of Christ officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.
The family will receive visitors at the Funeral Home before the service on Friday, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Mickey was born April 8, 1920, in Commerce, Oklahoma, to William H. and Lee (Zachary) Nix. She attended Northeastern Oklahoma Junior College and Northeastern Oklahoma State Teachers College. Mickey married her loving husband, Riley A. Armstrong in 1939 in Columbus, Kansas.
They moved from Vinita, Oklahoma, to Plainview in 1951. She and Riley were long time members of 9th & Columbia Church of Christ. Riley preceded her in death in 1984. Mickey moved to Carillon Senior Life Care Community in Lubbock in 2006.
She was a very talented woman; a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker supreme. She was an amazing cook and baker. She was a seamstress, pianist and caregiver. Mickey was also an excellent bookkeeper, poodle groomer and fishing buddy.
Mickey was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Lee Nix; her beloved husband of 43 years, Riley; her precious daughter, Carol Ann Armstrong; a brother, Harold W. Nix and a sister, Wilma Lee Woodard.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Michael Armstrong and Donna of Lubbock. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Kathy Armstrong of Santa Monica, Calif., and Christian Armstrong of Lubbock.
