Lowe, Lawrence, Mrs. (Margaret Ann Meinecke Speck)

Margaret Ann Meinecke Speck Lowe, 93, passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017 in Lubbock, Texas. She was born Nov. 12, 1923, in Fort Worth, Texas, to Nannie Belle and Robert Lee Meinecke. The family moved to Idalou in 1924 to open a hardware store and then to Amarillo two years later. In 1927 they arrived in Plainview to open Meinecke Brothers Hardware store.

Margaret Ann attended Highland Elementary, Ash Street Junior High and graduated from Plainview High School in 1940. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri, for one year and then attended Texas Tech University in 1942-43. In June of 1943 she married John Will Speck and they moved to Bryan, Texas, while he was in the Army Air Corps. They were also stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Harlingen, Texas. They returned to Plainview in 1946 and owned the J.I. Case tractor dealership. Margaret was active in PTA and served as a Girl Scout leader. She was a member of the Plainview Women's Club, Garden Club, Knife and Fork Club, the Plainview Historical Society and the Plainview A's Car Club. She worked at Plainview Federal Credit Union and at Young Dud's Clothing Store. She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and active in the Harmony Sunday School class, United Methodist Women, her church circle and served on various church boards. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was a caregiver for many friends and family members. She was named Plainview Pioneer Woman of the year in 2007.

Margaret was widowed in 1970 and married Lawrence Lowe in 1972. They were married for 39 years until his death in 2011.

She is survived by her son, John W. Speck Jr. and wife Gayle of Plainview; her two daughters, Nancy Speck of Lubbock and Mary West and husband Tom of Montrose, Colo.; her stepdaughter, Nancy Williams and husband, Terry of Abilene, Texas; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren. Two grandsons preceded her in death.

Services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, in Kornerstone Chapel with Rev. Mike Schafer officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Kornerstone.
