Vera, Ray, Mrs. (Bertha Diaz)

Bertha D. Vera, 84, of Plainview, passed away on Oct. 11, 2017, with her loved ones at her side.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in her honor at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father George Poonely as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, in the Lemons Memorial Chapel.

Bertha was born on April 4, 1933, in Taylor, Texas to Esteban and Maria (Garza) Diaz. She married Ray G. Vera on Dec. 23, 1953, in Plainview. They spent 55 beautiful years together and raised six sons and two daughters. Ray preceded her in death in April 2008.

Bertha worked for many years with the Plainview ISD until her retirement. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church and served as a Guadalupana for over 40 years. For 10 of those years, she served as Vice-President. Bertha enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play sports. She watched baseball on television. In her free time, she loved to play Bingo. She remained very active in church activities at Sacred Heart.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ray Vera; two sisters, Fina Vallejo and Lydia Diaz; one brother, Ernesto Diaz and one granddaughter, Larissa M. Vera.

Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Erma Vera of Plainview and Martha Medina and her husband, Robert, of San Antonio; six sons, Ray Vera and his wife Rosemary, Virgil Vera and his wife Irene, all of Plainview, Dennis Vera and his wife Cheryl of Fort Worth, Gilbert Vera of Plainview, Larry Vera of Columbus, Ohio, and Carlos Vera and wife Denise of Plainview. She is also survived by 28 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
