Burton, Verdell (Lefty), Mrs. (Janice Rhodes)

Janice Rhodes Burton, 81, of Plainview went to be with the Lord on Sept. 29, 2017. At the time of her passing, her husband Verdell and son Lonnie were at her bedside. Janice was born in Plainview on Nov. 13, 1935. She was a homemaker and a part time book keeper. As devoted church member, she participated in WMU, youth Sunday school and VBS. Her hobbies included arts and crafts and bowling. She also enjoyed camping with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents Henry Clyde Rhodes and Bessie Ola Michael; one son Ronnie Lane Burton; and four brothers.

Janice is survived by her husband Verdell "Lefty" Burton; a son, Lonnie Burton and wife Kathy. She had six grandchildren: Amanda Burton, Megan Dernaika, Trista Smalenberger, Nichole Chapman, Jennifer Marvel and Justin Burton. Also, 10 great-grandchildren Mia Burton-Sanborn, Adam, Olivia and Lilian Dernaika, Zane Halcomb-Burton, Kristen Marvel, and Braxtyn Burton. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be announced by the family in the coming weeks to be held at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
