Mills, Robert Clarence (Bob)

Robert "Bob" Clarence Mills, 82, of Pilot Point, Texas, formerly of Canyon, Texas, passed away suddenly on Aug. 25, 2017.

Bob was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1952 and continued his education at Bacone College and Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He graduated from Texas Tech with degrees in math and electrical engineering in 1959.

At Texas Tech, he met the love of his life, Jo Ann (Doss) Mills. They were married May 27, 1959, in the First Baptist Church in Plainview, Texas. They began married life in Dallas Texas, where Bob had accepted a position at Southwestern Bell Telephone as a Junior Executive Trainee.

In quick succession, they had a daughter, Dianna (Dee Dee) and a son, Robert Tobin (Toby). Bob was a dedicated and loving husband and family man.

Bob worked for Southwestern Bell for 25 years. After retiring from the "Bell System" in 1985, Bob contracted for telecommunications companies including Bell Labs and Telephonica of Spain.

After retiring from contracting in 2009, Bob became an inventor. He and his inventing partner hold two U.S. patents and hope to secure more.

Bob was preceded in death by the aunt and uncle who raised him, Mary Sue and Clarence Cunningham; his parents, Cecil Owen and Gilbert Mills; his grandparents, Mary (Rogers) and Emmitt Delashmitt.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jo Ann, his son, Toby, daughter Dee Dee, granddaughters Molly and Alexis and grandson Aiden, along with a cousin, Philip Delashmitt of Lee Summit, Mo.

A visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Directors from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Plainview Memorial Park with Oscar Chavez officiating. Services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
