Anita Tillinghast, 88, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, Dec.13, 2009, in Colorado Springs, Colo. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, in Ford Memorial Chapel, First Baptist Church, Lubbock, with Rev. John Ballard officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., in Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Plainview. Family members will receive friends beginning at 9:30 a.m., prior to the memorial service. Please join the family in celebrating Anita's life.
Anita was born on Aug. 19, 1921 to Willis Raymond and Dora (Coffee) Logan in Dallas. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1939. She married Ross Wayne Tillinghast in 1939. She had been a member of Central Baptist Church in Lubbock, First Baptist Church in Dallas and was a member of First Southern Baptist Church in Colorado Springs.
Anita was a Lubbock resident for over 35 years. She always cared for others. While in Lubbock, she was a Licensed Vocational Nurse as a private duty nurse, an office nurse for doctors Cross and Morris and for Dr. T.H. Holmes. She was on the Texas Tuberculosis Association Board of Directors for a number of years, she was an organizer for the Mothers March of Dimes and a life member of the Parent and Teachers Association. She was also a member of the "Rocky Mountain Mama's" senior entertainment group while living in Colorado Springs.
Anita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross of Lubbock; an infant son, Bobby Ray Tillinghast; and a daughter, Linda Gail Rodgers of Irving.
She is survived by her brother, Willis R. "Sonny" Logan of Lake Dallas, Texas; sons, Jack Tillinghast and wife Theresa of Kanab, Utah and Jimmy Tillinghast and wife Eugenia of Lubbock; and daughters, Judy Guthrie and husband Lee of Colorado Springs and Betty Swintz and husband George of Colorado Springs.
Her grandchildren are Monte Tillinghast, Lonnie Tillinghast, Kim DeBellis, Ryan Rodgers, Raegan Arrington, Amy Olsen, David Price, Daniel Price and Jennifer Bruecker. She has 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Silent Partners Prayer Ministry for law enforcement officers at First Baptist Church, 2201 Broadway, Lubbock, TX 79401.
