Springer, Billy Roy

Graveside services Billy Roy Springer, 76, of Abernathy were held Wednesday in the Abernathy Oddfellows Cemetery. Funeral services were held Monday in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen, Ark.

He died Saturday, Mar. 29, 2003, at Brookwood Nursing Home in De Queen.

He was born to John B. Springer and Rebecca Hastey Springer at Haskell on Sept. 24, 1926. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Baptist Church, the American Legion, and the V.F.W. He enjoyed playing dominos.

Springer was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Daughterty Springer.

He is survived by two sons, Keith of Foreman and Leslie of Abernathy; three sisters, Theada Barton of Cove, Ark., Maurine Martin of Mena, Ark., and Mary Jo Martin of Virginia Beach, Va., three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
