Vernie Charles Ball, age 89, passed away June 30, 2017 at his home in Amarillo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in the Lemons Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brad Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Vernie was born on Jan. 2, 1928, in Waurika, Oklahoma, to Vollie Elmer and Mattie Bell (Keenon) Ball. Vernie honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army. He was stationed in Japan from 1946-1947. He worked for Occidental Petro as a refinery operator until his retirement. He married Wylene Moss on March 24, 1984, in Odessa, Texas. Vernie loved doing yard work and tending to his flowers; especially his prized geraniums.

He was a faithful member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Amarillo; where he had assisted with the bereavement meals and was a member of the Aldersgate Sunday School Class. Vernie was a loving husband and special Dad who loved his family very much.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Gertrude Stafford Ball and five of his siblings.
Vernie is survived by his wife, Wylene Moss Ball of Amarillo; his son, Vernie Charles Ball Jr. and wife Vickie; his daughters, Reva Ball "Sissy" Buckner and Cindy Ball Bybee and husband Monty; step-daughter, Kathy Douglas and husband Grant; stepson, David Roberts and wife Christi. He is also survived by his siblings, Letha Batis, Tommy Ball, and Shirley Abbott, six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
