Saldana, Ernesto V. (Ernest)

Ernesto V. "Ernest" Saldana, 78, of Plainview passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Msgr. Arsenio Redulla officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas.

Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Saldana was born on July 28, 1938, in Taft, Texas, to Eufresino and Manuela Saldana and he was raised in Crystal City. He lived in North Dakota before moving to Plainview in 1963. He married Sophia DeLuna on Sept. 12, 1966, in Plainview, Texas. Together they raised six children and helped raise two grandchildren, Jeremy Velez and CJ Morales. He worked for the City of Plainview in the Parks Department and retired as a foreman after having 30 years of service. Ernest and his sense of humor will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jose E. Saldana; one brother and two sisters.

Mr. Saldana is survived by his wife, Sophia Saldana of Plainview; three daughters, Virginia "Gina" Martinez and husband Julio of Fort Lupton, Colo., Vickie Saldana of Plainview and Vivian Hernandez and husband Tony of Canyon; three sons, Louis Saldana and wife Zully of Japan, Ernest Saldana Jr. and wife Amanda of New Castle, Colo., and Adam Saldana and wife Christina of Allen; grandson, Jeremy Velez of Plainview; mother-in-law, Dominga DeLuna of Plainview; 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
