Elva G. Saenz, 82, of Plainview, passed away on June 14, 2017, with her loving family at her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at Elim Worship Center located at 1310 Galveston St. with Pastor Roger Munoz officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.

A Prayer Service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Church.

Elva was born on Aug. 22, 1934, in Tierra Blanca, Texas to Amador and Dominga (Bustamante) Gonzalez. She married Alfredo "Roy" Saenz in Hebbronville, Texas on Jan. 1, 1951. This year, they were blessed to celebrate 66 years together.
Elva worked for many years in the housekeeping and janitorial industry. She worked at the First Presbyterian Church until her retirement. She was efficient in organization and budgeting. She had immense pride in her immaculate home. She was most happy when she was serving at her church, whether it was as a Sunday school teacher or cleaning the building or doing yard work. Hers was a life of service. She was a God-fearing woman, full of faith. If you ever went to her home, you were quickly offered a delicious meal. She was famous for her carrot cake and her pineapple upside down cake. She left so many amazing memories of her caring and nurturing with her family members. Nieces, nephews and grandchildren's faces are full of love when remembering her. When asked about his life with Elva, her husband Roy stated simply that she was a wonderful wife and mother and that her absence will be felt forever.

She was preceded in death by three siblings, Santiago Gonzalez, Baldemar Gonzalez and Angelita Barretero.
Those left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband Roy, of the home; two daughters, Estella Hernandez and husband Pete of Wylie, Texas, and Teresa Landeros and husband Johnny of Plainview; four grandchildren, Irene Hernandez, Pete Hernandez Jr., Judy McDonald, Amanda Hernandez and Abel Castillo; 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Auorora Vargas of Fresno, Calif.

Elva's family would like to extend special, heart-felt gratitude to her niece, Linda Menchaca for all your amazing care of Elva during her illness. You never left her side and because of you, our lives could function at some level of normalcy. We will never forget your devotion to her.
