Pinkerton, Owens, Mrs. (Mary Lee Greenhaw)

Mary Lee Pinkerton, age 96, formerly of Plainview, Texas, passed away on Thursday, June 22, 2017, in Arlington, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, at 10 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church Chapel in Plainview with Rev. Mike Schafer officiating and Mr. Van Miller assisting. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

Mary was born Feb. 9, 1921 in Plainview to Henry and Gladys Thomas Greenhaw. She graduated from Plainview High School in 1938 and attended Lipperts Business School. During World War II, she was a bookkeeper for the Defense Department in Dumas, Texas. She married Hugh Owens Pinkerton on Aug. 28, 1945, and moved to their farm at Halfway. She and Owens were happily married for 48 years, until his passing in 1994. While living at Halfway, she was a bookkeeper at Halfway Paymaster and Halfway Co-Op Gins, until retiring in 1991. She then moved to Plainview in 1995. Mary was a member of the Halfway Methodist Church for many years and later, a member of Trinity Methodist Church in Plainview. While living at Halfway, she was also a member of the Home Demonstration Club, a 4-H Club Leader and participated in many other community activities. After retiring, she enjoyed knitting and making quilts for her family. In 2009, she moved to an assisted living facility in Arlington, Texas.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Owens Pinkerton, a sister, May Belle Ogle, and a brother, Beeman Hendrick.

She is survived by her four children: John Pinkerton and wife Barbara of Arlington, Elaine Mallow and husband Guy of Arlington, James Pinkerton of Plainview, and Roger Pinkerton and wife Lesa of Houston; four grandchildren, Michael Flaherty of Keller, Melissa Pinkerton of Dallas, Monica Satterwhite and husband Scott of Lake Kiowa, and Justin Mallow and wife Tasha of Hurst. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren, Chase Flaherty and Abby Petuch; Sesalie, Macie and Sadler Satterwhite; and Shawna Alliston

In addition, she is survived by a brother, John Hendrick and wife Marian of San Antonio, Texas.

Mary was a true Proverbs 31 woman: Full of grace, patience and love for Jesus and others. She extended hospitality regularly to guests in her home and served them with utmost love. She was loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all those who knew her. The family suggests memorial contributions to a favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
