Hughes, James Dale
James Dale Hughes, 85, of Plainview, passed away on May 10, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Seth Ward Baptist Church with Pastor David Pollard officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the personal care of Lemons Funeral Home.
Dale was born on July 18, 1931, in Earl, Oklahoma, to James and Ida Belle (Gibson) Hughes. He proudly served in the US Navy between 1950 and 1954. He married Mildred Philpot on March 3, 1972, in Paducah, Texas.
Dale was a man of a strong work ethic. He worked for 30 years as a Shift Supervisor at Zipp Industries in Plainview. Dale had three major "loves" in his life; he loved God and His Word; he loved his bride, Mildred and he loved his Country. Dale was so proud to have served this great nation during the Korean War. At one time, Dale owned his own landscape company and he took great pride in making everything beautiful. He loved growing vegetables in his own garden as well. His family remembers fishing expeditions with Dale were always a great time. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Imogene Ely, Eddie Marie Van Zandt, Leona Enos and Bonnie Howard; and one brother, Harold Dean Hughes.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mildred, of Plainview; two daughters, Kathryn Ann Woods and Marilyn Jane "Janie" Gay; one son, Dale Edward "Eddie" Hughes; stepdaughter, Frances "Sissy" Schnee; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother, Billie Bob Hughes and one sister, Lorene Van Zandt.
