Hinojosa, Daniel

PETERSBURG -- Daniel Hinojosa, 70, of Petersburg passed away on April 25, 2017. Daniel was born on Dec. 23, 1946, in Premont, Texas, to Reyes and Susana Hinojosa. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Diane Gonzales on Nov. 12, 1966. Daniel graduated from Petersburg High School and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Petersburg. He spent many years working for John Deere in Petersburg and eventually became part owner of Petersburg Service Center. He found his passion serving others working as the longtime chief of police of Petersburg before retiring. He also spent many years working as a volunteer EMT and volunteer firefighter. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends at the deer lease.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Dennis Hinojosa, D'Nell Cantu and husband Gus, and Don Rey Hinojosa and wife Stephanie, all of Petersburg; one brother, Noe Hinojosa and wife Rosie of Plainview; sister, Alda Emma Lombard of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five grandchildren Nathaniel Hinojosa, Jared Cantu, Averi Cantu, Joshua Cantu and Noah Hinojosa, all of Petersburg.

Daniel was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Porfirio and Bonnie Gonzales, brother Alex Hinojosa, brother-in-law Larry Lombard, daughter-in-law Rebecca Gonzales Hinojosa, and his wife.

The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Petersburg EMS, Petersburg Fire Department, or the Petersburg Police Department.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 26, 2016, from 1-8 p.m. with rosary beginning at 6 p.m. at the Venue on Broadway, 2202 Broadway, Lubbock. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 11 a.m. Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with interment to follow at the Petersburg Cemetery.
