Jerald Bright passed from this earth to join his Lord and Savior on Father?s Day, June 18, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Grace Bright, daughter Ann Bright and husband Stan Wedel of Austin, son Jerry Bright and wife Rhona of Petersburg, son Sid Bright of Lubbock; grandchildren Joshua Bright and wife Liz of Lubbock, Caleb Bright and wife Erica of Abernathy, Bethany Midgett and husband Matt of Petersburg, Jake Bright and Jackson Bright of Lubbock; and four great grandchildren, Cooper and Cole Midgett, Coyt Bright and Clara Bright. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Sidney and Ella Bright, his brothers Travis Bright and Estel Bright, and sisters Nalta Alford and Mildred Armstrong.

Jerald William Bright (?Pop? to his grandchildren) was born May 5, 1934, in Abilene, Texas. He was the youngest of Sidney and Ella Bright. He grew up in the Abilene area and in Petersburg. In 1954, joined the U.S. Navy where he served aboard a destroyer and traveled to many foreign ports. He was honorably discharged in 1958 and returned to Petersburg. Not long after returning to Petersburg, he met and married Grace Bright, who was teaching school in Petersburg. They were married in Canyon Texas and raised their children in Petersburg. Jerald farmed, was later in the fuel business and finally worked for the City of Petersburg, where he renewed his interest in working with metal. He retired from the City in 1999. After his retirement, he built a shop and continued to work with metal creating, among other thing, benches (including six that can be seen around Petersburg), baker?s racks, beds, small windmills, and baskets, but he was best known for his beautiful metal crosses. He was a member of American Legion and was part of the group that placed flags on the graves of veterans at the Petersburg Cemetery each Memorial Day. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Petersburg. In 2012, he and Grace moved to Mackezie Place in Lubbock. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and quickly made friends wherever he was. He loved his Lord, was devoted to the study of the Bible, and was especially interested in the New Testament.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Petersburg. Interment will follow at the Petersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 ? 8:00p.m., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Idalou Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Idalou.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a veteran?s charity.
