Leonard Baker, 94, of Plainview passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2017, at College Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Don Robertson officiating. Interment will follow in the Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Mr. Baker was born on June 11, 1922, in Anson, Texas, to Willie and Mary Baker. He grew up around Spur and attended schools there. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After serving his country, he returned home and worked as a mechanic. He owned and operated his own business for many years in Plainview. Leonard loved to fish; he loved to watch the Cowboys and the Rangers. He was a member of the College Heights Baptist Church.
He married Lois Rape on May 30, 1942, and she preceded him in death on Jan. 20, 2009. He was also preceded in death a son, Leonard Wayne Baker.
Survivors include one son, Tommy Baker and wife Carolyn of Plainview; two brothers, Arvel Baker of Brackettville, W.T. Baker of Las Cruces, N.M.; one sister, Bobbie Strickland of Allen; and two grandchildren, Patricia Kammerdiener and husband Paul of Plainview, Larry Baker of Houston.
