Joe Eddy Pruitt, 79, of Plainview, passed away on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in the Lemons Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Halfway Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

Joe Eddy, the baby of the family, was born on July 15, 1937, in Hardeman County to Andrew "Lace" Franklin and Myrtle (Grinslade) Pruitt. He graduated from Quanah High School. After graduation, he moved to Halfway to be closer to his sister, Billie Jean Goree. His first job was working for West Texas Gas, delivering propane and diesel.

Joe Eddy married Leta Mae Simpson on Valentine's Day in 1959. They had three children. Tonya, in November 1959, Joe Dale in April 1961, and Andrew Lee in November 1962.

A farmer his entire life, he was guided by the weather for his work schedule. He participated in a Pony Express League; with 8 people in the unit, he was the anchor and was responsible for delivering the mailbags to the barrel. He traveled across the country, by motorcycle with his friends, vacationing with other families. They even traveled in a homemade grain truck turned into a mobile home. He and Leta were members of the Bells & Beaus Square Dancing group for 24 years.

He met Sheila Buske and they married on Oct. 4, 2013 in Halfway.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Leta Mae, two grandchildren and seven siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Pruitt; one daughter, Tonya Westbrook and husband Steve of Lubbock; two sons, Andrew Pruitt and wife Kay of Denton and Joe Dale Pruitt of Edmonson. He is also survived by one brother, Bobby Pruitt of Vernon and one sister, Frankie Marquart of Quanah; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren with one more blessing due very soon.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society -Hope Lodge Lubbock, 3511 10th Street, Lubbock, TX 79415 or Christian Manor, 813 W. 8th St. Plainview, TX 79072.
