Johnson, W.C. (Dub)
AMARILLO -- W.C. "Dub" Johnson of Amarillo peacefully went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 24, 2016. Dub was born on Oct. 12, 1927, in Hale Center, Texas, to Curtis and Essie Johnson.
Celebration of life services will at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, at First Baptist Church Chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson and Corky Holland officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. at Plainview Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount.
Dub was active in sports throughout high school. Dub even made a trip to the state high school track meet in the 440-yard dash. He attended Texas Tech University on a football scholarship, but suffered an injury that ended his athletic career. Dub moved back to Hale Center where he began his life long career of farming. Dub met his future wife, Patricia to whom he was happily married for 65 years.
Dub was preceded in death by his mother and father, Essie and Curtis, and one son-in-law David Holt of Silverton.
Survivors include his loving wife Patricia Johnson of Amarillo; two daughters, Debbie Holt of Amarillo, Amy McOwen and husband Gordon of Amarillo; brothers, JR Johnson and wife Bobbie Lou of Shallowater, Texas, and RL Johnson and wife Betty, of Jacksonville, Texas. Grand Dub had eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
