Obituary

Smith, Jack Wiley Wilford

Jack Wiley Wilford Smith, 102, of Hale Center, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016, surrounded by family.

Memorial services for Jack will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Hale Center Church of Christ.

Jack was born on November 10, 1913 in Kress to Carl Walker and Ruth (McCune) Smith. He was the second of 10 children. He attended Kress High School. Jack married Rose Pauline Files in Spearman, Texas in 1937 and they raised four children together. They were married for over 52 years until her passing in 1989. On September 8, 1990, he married Katharyn Marie Foraker and they were married for 20 years until her passing in 2010. She had four children when they married and he loved them as his own.

He was a strong man of faith and instilled that in his family. He was a father to many and loved them all the same. Jack helped his wife Katharyn to care for her own mother, "Grandma Fanny Davis" for many years. He never acted as if that were a burden. On the other hand, he felt that he was a blessed man to have been in his 80's and still have a mother in law who was living. He was a pillar in the Church of Christ and he attended Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview and more recently, Hale Center Church of Christ.

Jack was preceded in death by his first wife, Rose and his second wife, Katharyn; two daughters, Jacqueline Rose Jones and Myra Faye Mickey; one foster son, Tommy Ward; eight siblings and one special cousin whom he loved like a brother, R.V. Tinnin.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Julia "Judy" Chambliss of Hale Center and Jeannie Jones of Lubbock; his sons, Wilford Smith and wife Gloria of Plainview, Ronnie Foraker and Lonnie Foraker; one brother, Carl Smith, Jr.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
