Martinez, Ramon (The Snow Cone Man)

Ramon "The Snow Cone Man" Martinez, 91, of Plainview, passed away on September 22, 2016 surrounded by family.

There will be a rosary recited at 6:00 p.m. tonight, Friday, September 23, 2016 at Lemons Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery.

Ramon was born on January 12, 1925 in Sterling City Texas to Francisco and Petra (Acosta) Martinez. He married Hilaria "Lala" Morales on June 4, 1947 in Roscoe. They were married for 63 years until her passing in 2010. They owned a snow cone stand for many years on the corner of 19th Street and El Paso.

Ramon was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. He enjoyed attending the Charismatic Conference and Prayer Meetings and was actively involved in the Cursillos Ministry. He enjoyed fishing and watching baseball and football. Before retirement, he worked at Plainview Oil Mill for many years. He was a precious father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilaria "Lala"; one son, Frank Martinez; one daughter, Josie Martinez; two grandchildren, Rex Lee Martinez and Zeibea Martinez and 5 siblings, Cecilla Mendoza, Nacho Garcia, Fransisca Navarette, Luis Martinez and Norberto Martinez.

Those left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Janie Larsen, Lupe Arroyo and husband Rogelio, all of Plainview, Patsy Martinez of Midland and Mona Martinez of Lubbock; four sons, Ray Martinez and wife Maria of Brady, Johnny Martinez and wife Maria, Jesse Martinez and wife Neli, all of Plainview, and Danny Martinez and wife Sylvia, of Olton; 33 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great grandchildren.
