Byra A. Settle, 96, of Plainview, passed away on September 13, 2016.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at Plainview Cemetery.
Byra was born on June 27, 1920 in Pagosa Springs, Colorado to Chester and Elva (Dunham) Townsend. She married Virgil R. Settle on September 3, 1934 and they remained married until his passing. They were blessed with six children during their marriage.
Byra was a kind, loving mother. Her children were precious to her. She and her husband attended Seth Ward Baptist Church for over 50 years and she continued after his passing. Byra was a woman of many interests. She enjoyed rock hunting and collected various gemstones. She was a master at faceting those gemstones and always amazed people with her skill and creativity. She was a seamstress who could upholster anything and often made her husband's western shirts and suits! Her children remember her as an amazing cook who loved serving her family. She will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Virgil; her daughter, Cynthia LeAnn Settle; her son, Whitt Robert Settle; three siblings, Arnold Townsend, Lula Dearman and Flora Tolbert and two granddaughters.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Virgalene "Penny" Settle Shugart of Hale Center and Theresa Day and husband Tommy of Plainview and two sons, Buck Settle and wife Rose of Edinburg and Jack Settle and wife Francis of Harlingen. She is also survived by many grandchildren; great grandchildren and several cousins.
