Ascencion R. "Chon" Gonzalez, 73, of Plainview, passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 8, 2016.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Templo Sinai, 220 E. 6th St., with Pastor Ignacio Soto officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Lemons Funeral Home.

There will be a prayer service held Tuesday evening , August 9, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Templo Sinai.

"Chon" was born on June 3, 1943 in Zaragoza, Coahuila Mexico to Rom?n Gonzalez and Marina Ramos Gonzalez. He came from Mexico at the age of 19 to pursue the American Dream. He learned English and became a citizen. He married Lydia Jacques in 1966 in Plainview and they created a beautiful life together. He always stressed the importance of a good education to his children. He is fondly remembered by his family as a wonderful father who was humorous and silly. He had not an enemy in the world and would do anything for anyone. His children recall that he was the model husband, always loving and kind to his wife. He loved to play his guitar and sing. He always enjoyed taking vacations with as many family members as possible and even his grandchildren called him "dad". He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Jesika Nikole Gausin.

Those left to cherish his memory are Lydia, his beloved bride of over 50 years, of the home; two sons, Louis Cortez and wife, Ruth and Earnest Cortez and wife Alicia; six daughters, Ester Sanchez and husband Avelino, Mary Ann Cortez and husband Wayne Moreno, Patricia Esparza and husband Tirso, Marina Gonzalez and husband Marcelo Rodriguez, Mary Jane Borrego and husband Abraham and Becky Baeza and husband Shon Dale; 19 grandsons, 12 granddaughters, 20 great-grandsons, 22 great- granddaughters and one great-great grandson. He is also survived by three brothers, Miguel Gonzalez, Jose Carmen Gonzalez and Frank Gonzalez and one sister, Josefina Quiroz.
