Funeral services for W.A. ?Bill? Turner, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Friona.
Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Abernathy Cemetery by Ellis-Blackwell Funeral Home.
Mr. Turner died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at Palmer County Community Hospital in Friona.
He was born April 30, 1911, in Rotan. On Dec. 31, 1932, he married Emma J. Holmes in Mena, Ark., and they operated grocery stores in Abernathy, Cotton Center, Lubbock and Sudan from 1937 t0 1970. She died Jan. 7, 1991.
He moved to Friona in 1974 from Sudan and worked as a ginner and operated Turner?s Swap and Shop Store for 20 years. He retired in 1999.
He was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, W.A ?Bill? Turner Jr., of Austin; two daughters, Betty Wiseman of Friona and Madeline Rosson of Hereford; a sister, Fanny Bruce of Abernathy; five grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great=great-grandchild.
A son, Gary Turner, died in February of 1952.
