Mildred Fern Francis, 89, of Claytonville passed away on Monday morning, July 18, 2016 peacefully in her home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer?s disease. Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday July 21, 2016 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 ? 7:00 P.M. Wednesday July 20, 2016 at the funeral home.

She was born September 13, 1927 to Lee and Mamie Clymore in Bowie, Texas. Mildred had two brothers and four sisters. Her father nicknamed her Penny for her beautiful copper colored skin that reminded him of a copper penny. She attended schools in Black and Plainview, Texas. Following graduation from Plainview High School she became a licensed beautician. In 1946 Mildred met John Leroy Francis and they were married December 15 in Lockney, Texas. Mildred and Leroy moved to their farm in the Claytonville community in 1949 where they raised their sons Richard, Joe, Barry and a foster son named Billy Boatright. Mildred and Leroy were active members of the Claytonville Baptist Church. Mildred was a wonderful farm wife and mother. She was an accomplished quilter, gardener, and an outstanding cook and homemaker. She loved all aspects of farm life, and supported several charitable organizations.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, five siblings, her foster son, and her husband. Survivors include son Richard and wife Debbie of Plainview, son Joe of Plainview, and son Barry and wife Barbara of Waco, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law and one sister.

The family gives special thanks to wonderful caregivers Yvonne Franklin, Sonja Blaylock, and Luverne Shannon. Thanks also to the help and care provided by Area Community Hospice of Plainview.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Alzheimer?s Association.
