Newsome, Don E.

Funeral services for Don E. Newsome, 78, of Plainview will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Bartley Memorial Chapel with Rev. Robert Malcolm officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Cemetery under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Newsome died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, in Lubbock. Don married Bettie Bolton on Aug. 10, 1957, in Abernathy. He worked for Hastey Construction here in Plainview and taught Sunday school at Colonial Baptist Church where he was a member. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Newsome of Plainview; one son, Billie Newsome and wife Barbara of Plainview; one daughter, Debbi Barcheers and husband Lynn of Hale Center; one brother, Justin Newsome of Tacoma, Wash.; three sisters, Loretta Hastey and husband Maurice of Plainview, Frances Wheeler and husband Wade of Wolfforth and Gail Jarthan of Slaton. He is preceded in death by both parents; six brothers, Charles, Max, Doyle, Jerry, Dale and David Ray Newsome; one sister, Carolyn Newsome; and one grandson, Lin Dale Hodges.
